[緊急救援] 這位遭拘禁者Bassel是AI台灣英語小組成員的朋友，因此小組格外關注本案的發展，目前小組在下周二(10/23)在台北"睡不著咖啡館"舉行聲援Bassel的活動，並呼籲台灣的朋友救援他們的朋友Bassel。英語小組呼籲大家採取行動，方式如下：

敘利亞被拘禁者恐遭酷刑

一名在敘利亞出生長大的巴勒斯坦男性Bassel Khartabil自從3月15日在大馬士革被捕後一直被單獨監禁。有當地消息來源指出，他遭受酷刑以及其他虐待，人身安全恐有危險。
根據當地消息來源，31歲的Bassel Khartabil 3月15日下班途中於大馬士革的Al-Mezzeh區被逮捕。他據信是被某敘利亞安全部隊所監禁。逮捕一週後，安全部隊成員與Khartabil曾短暫回到家中，Khartabil的電腦與文件被沒收。國際特赦組織目前無法得知其被拘禁的原因，但懷疑可能與敘利亞持續動亂和武裝衝突有關。
幾星期後，親戚打聽他的下落，Kafr Sousseh軍事情報部門的安全官員證實Bassel Khartabil被拘留，但並未透露他的行蹤、健康狀況、以及是否有被正式提出指控。依照國際人權標準，逮捕被拘留者後必須立即通知家屬，家屬也有權和被拘留者接觸。此標準也要求讓被拘留者有權依自由意志聘請律師，然而Bassel Khartabil沒有得到任何接觸律師的途徑。
幾個星期後，一個獲釋者告訴Bassel Khartabil的家人Bassel Khartabil被軍事情報部門拘禁在Kafr Sousseh並遭到酷刑以及其他虐待。這使得Khartabil的安危更加令人擔憂。Bassel Khartabil是糖尿病患者，但不確定他是否能得到藥物治療以及適合他的疾病的飲食，或者是否有得到適當的醫療評估。

It never hits closer to home than when it happens to someone you know. Syria has never been further from most of our minds for us living Taiwan except for my good pal Christopher Adams, whose fear came true when Bassel Khartabil was detained in Syria this March 2012. We will be hosting an intimate roundtable talk event with Chris to understand what took place. "Bassel was important for bringing internet sharing ideas to the Arab⋯⋯ world and was also important for getting internet people in the middle east to work together and he used the Internet and free culture to help get him out of Syria and to collaborate with the rest of the world. "Think, if the Internet had existed during martial law in Taiwan, how would people have used it?" - Christopher Adams Up until this March 2012, Chris had been trying to secure ways for Bassel to leave the conflict stricken country but Bassel refused, saying he wanted to stay in his country so he could help his country by letting international news media and his friends outside know the truth about what was going on. We will be hosting an event to take action in solidarity to understand the conflict in Syria by understanding why Bassel gave and trying to give him a voice when he has given us so much without us knowing. In addition to Sean Su's presentation, Jack will also present TOR ; please bring your laptop and so he can guide on how to install the system immediately!

Human rights activists use Tor to anonymously report abuses from danger zones. Internationally, labor rights workers use Tor and other forms of online and offline anonymity to organize workers in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights （世界人權宣言）. Even though they are within the law, it does not mean they are safe. Tor provides the ability to avoid persecution while still raising a voice.
Questions to be answered:
1) Why should NGOs be concerned about computer security?
2) Which organizations are involved in both security and hacking?
3) How can my work or personal information be used against me?
4) What is the global epidemic/trend?
5) How do I protect my computer? What programs or systems do I need to install?
6) Is this 100% insurance against being hacked/compromised?

那些年,你不知道的緬甸∼ 1962年起的軍人獨裁政權帶領國家走向封閉; 1988年風起雲湧的學運帶來超過三千條年輕生命的消逝; 1991年諾貝爾和平獎得主翁山蘇姬超過16年的軟禁歲月; 2007年番紅花革命,僧侶以鮮血換來世人的關注與聲援。
這一年,讓我們再次聚焦緬甸∼
對異議人士的逮捕、刑求、暗殺,宛如台灣威權時期的白 色恐怖陰影,這是許多緬甸人民揮之不去的夢魘;政府與 外資財團恣意妄為的聯手開發與環境破壞、強迫拆遷、勞 動,一步步侵害緬甸的生態、土地,以及人民的生命。
